The American Bar is a space where every material matters. The interior’s subtle layering of mirrors, velvet, marble and light demanded equal finesse in the plaster elements — which were crafted as both architectural structure and decorative refinement.

Key elements included:

• Sculptural plaster ceilings, designed as handcrafted ceiling features that flow rhythmically above the bar, enhancing both the acoustics and visual composition of the space.

• Decorative plaster niches and alcoves, providing carefully lit recesses for curated artworks and bar display — a hallmark of architectural plaster detailing.

• Custom plaster cornices, tailored to follow the room’s curves and planes with precision, reinforcing the symmetry and lines of the overall design.

• Bespoke plaster wall panelling, offering a refined backdrop for the bar’s lighting design and rich finishes. This plaster detailing provided essential texture and grounding within the high-end commercial interior.

Working alongside David Collins Studio, our role was to translate their vision into physical form — with the sculptural plasterwork acting as a quiet yet essential layer within the design. The ceiling in particular was not just a surface but a spatial gesture, softening the bar’s geometry and enhancing its signature atmosphere.

Our team crafted each element in-house using traditional techniques combined with modern materials, then completed a seamless plaster ceiling installation in London, aligning perfectly with lighting, ventilation, and architectural elements.

The success of this project speaks to the power of decorative plaster for hospitality — not only as a design detail, but as a functional and atmospheric contributor to the guest experience. Within the soft lighting and tonal luxury of The Connaught’s American Bar, our plaster features help define the feeling of stillness and timelessness that guests return for.
