Les Ambassadeurs restaurant plasterwork restoration

Housed in one of the finest Georgian properties in Mayfair, Les Ambassadeurs is an exclusive members-only gaming club with luxurious private rooms and world-class fine dining set in the grounds of one of Henry VIII’s hunting lodges.

Full renovation of the elegant Art Deco restaurant

The client wanted a complete renovation of the Les Ambassadeurs restaurant and bar, whose world-class chefs and sommeliers offer a selection of cuisines and fine wines. The inspiration for the interior was the Art Deco period, with sleek white Dolomite marble and chic black fittings.

Using detailed architects’ and designers’ drawings, we helped create bespoke plasterwork elements with an Art Deco inspiration. We hand-crafted scalloped cornices and light troughs, panelled staircases and abstract friezes encircling the room, as well as a coffered ceiling that was stunning, all of which formed part of the plasterwork renovation. The bespoke columns and plaster capitals – hand-painted to replicate marble – ensured a grand entrance to the hall.

Working with CAD, we deconstructed the architects’ drawings in order to build up the bespoke plaster mouldings in layers for the plasterwork renovation, tweaking the design where necessary to help incorporate lights hidden in small creases in the plaster mouldings themselves. Drawings were provided for approval before enlisting our traditional master craftsmen in the workshop and on site, where all enrichments were hand-sculpted.

This job brought us a lot closer to the capabilities of technology, and we shaved days – even possibly weeks – off making custom plaster mouldings through using it.
