Situated in the heart of Mayfair, 16 Charles Street is a distinguished period property within the historic Grosvenor Estate, retaining original decorative plasterwork and fibrous plaster ceilings that reflect its heritage and craftsmanship.

Specialist Plasterwork Surveys & Condition Assessment

We were appointed as fibrous plastering contractors and heritage plasterwork specialists to undertake a detailed heritage building survey to two existing ceilings.

Our approach involved inspecting both the visible face and concealed structural backs of the lath and plaster ceiling, allowing us to fully assess condition, fixings, and overall stability. We produced detailed reports outlining risks, recommendations for ornamental plaster repair, and a comprehensive heritage building survey.

Alongside this, we carried out in-depth research into the building’s history and took material samples where required, ensuring all plaster mouldings and finishes could be accurately matched to their original composition.

Heritage Plaster Restoration & Repair Works

Following our findings, we carried out a programme of plasterwork restoration, including reinforcing and stabilisaton using various historical techniques, which have remained for hundreds of years. We introduced additional supports where required and carefully consolidated weakened fibrous plaster panels.

As experienced restoration specialists and master plasterers, our focus was to ensure the ceilings were both structurally secure and true to their original construction.

Reinstatement of Decorative Features

Previous alterations had resulted in the loss of original features, including cornices and ceiling mouldings.

Using traditional techniques, we recast, moulded and reinstated missing elements, matching original profiles and detailing to seamlessly integrate with the existing decorative plaster ceiling.

A Sensitive Approach

Our conservation-led approach ensured all heritage plaster and decorative plasterwork was preserved wherever possible. By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern investigation techniques, we were able to restore the ceilings while maintaining the building’s historic integrity.
